The FIA Formula 2 Championship is set for its second European event of the season which will take place this weekend at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. The 4.6-kilometer venue will be back in the series’ calendar after a year-long break in 2021, although all teams have generally had a good amount of experience on it as it’s a common destination for junior single-seaters and their testing sessions. Featuring a wide variety of corners, Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya is always seen as an equalizing factor throughout the field.
PREMA Racing will be back running with its Red Bull Junior line-up consisting of veteran Jehan Daruvala and rookie Dennis Hauger. The 23-year-old Indian claimed his third podium finish of the year last time around at Imola, and sits third in the championship standings, while the 19-year-old Norwegian secured his maiden podium with P3 in race 1 on Italian soil. For both Hauger and Daruvala, it will be a return to the track that handed them their first FIA F3 wins as PREMA drivers in 2019 and 2021 respectively.
After a tough weekend at Imola featuring cold and rainy weather, the series is expected to face the heat in Spain, with temperatures reaching and surpassing 30 degrees celsius.
"It feels good to be back in Spain for a traditional event in FIA F2. I think we showed we can achieve very positive results so far if we execute everything well from qualifying. Jehan already brought home two second-place finishes and performed in convincing fashion in terms of race pace. On the other hand, Dennis proved he is a quick and effective learner. We are in for a smooth, hard-working weekend in Barcelona, and we hope to see our full potential come into play there."
