Prema Racing has consistent sprint race at Barcelona

R04 - Barcelona - FIA Formula 2 Race 1 Report

Jehan Daruvala captured fourth place in the opening race of the FIA Formula 2 weekend at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. The Indian posted P5 in qualifying and started from the seventh place on the reverse grid for the Sprint Race.

He quickly bumped his way up the order, moving to the fifth place in the first lap and then going by one competitor in the closing stages. The race didn't offer many other surprises as the lack of passing opportunities and the chance of tyre degradation made for a careful approach.

Starting in P14, Dennis Hauger finished in the same position as he could not find his way through the pack. The Norwegian did not find chemistry with the car and focused on not making mistakes, collecting a good amount of data ahead of the Feature Race.

#1 - Dennis Hauger
"I had an okay start, nothing special. I struggled a bit with the rears from the beginning and that made it hard to overtake coming out of the last corner. It was a bit of a frustrating race, but we will look into it and will prepare to go again tomorrow."

#2 - Jehan Daruvala
"I started P7 and finished P4, so I think it was a decent race. I had a positive first lap, but then it was really difficult to overtake, so I was just managing my pace and tyres. In the end, I was waiting for the car in front to struggle a bit which he did, so I got by. I think it was really important to go by Pourchaire as well. Afterward, I tried to push a lot to try and get close to the podium, but probably I pushed too much and struggled in the closing stages. We got a good amount of data for tomorrow, we start fourth, and we can definitely move forward and fight back."
