PREMA has up-and-down day in Monte Carlo qualifying

R05 - Monte Carlo - FIA Formula 2 Qualifying Report

PREMA Racing didn't have an easy day in FIA Formula 2 qualifying today at Monte Carlo. The Italian squad lined up for the group-split session this morning with the Red Bull Junior pairing of Dennis Hauger and Jehan Daruvala in group A and B respectively.

The Norwegian, who had posted P3 in practice, had a more challenging session in qualifying and ended up with P5, which will mean a row 5 start for the feature race. However, following yellow flag penalties assessed to competitors, he will have the chance to start from P2 in the Sprint Race.

After getting out of sequence in terms of procedure, Daruvala showed great potential but was eventually ruled out of the fight for pole by a late red flag. The Indian ended up in P4. He will start tomorrow's Sprint Race from the third place on the grid, before lining-up for the Feature Race on row 4.

#1 - Dennis Hauger
"It has been a tough qualifying as I didn't feel as confident as in free practice. Other than that, I felt that the last lap was going to be better, but then the red flag came. Overall, not great, but even if the situation is not optimal, hopefully we will bounce back a bit in the races. "

#2 - Jehan Daruvala
"Difficult qualifying session. I think we have really good pace but we made a bit of a mistake or miscommunication. We were out of sync compared to everyone else, and that messed us up because I really couldn't bring my tyres in. In the cool laps I had to drive very slowly to let cars by, and in the end there was a red flag when I got in sync. It didn't work out as planned, but I'm confident because every lap that I did felt good, and there was definitely a step to make in the third and last lap. Now let's see what we can do in the race."
