PREMA Racing takes 1-2 win in Monte Carlo Sprint Race

R05 - Monte Carlo - FIA Formula 2 Race 1 Report

PREMA Racing delivered its first win of the 2022 FIA Formula 2 Championship at Monte Carlo, as Dennis Hauger led team-mate Jehan Daruvala to a Red Bull Junior 1-2 finish in today’s Sprint Race.

Using every opportunity that he got, Hauger cruised to the lead from the front row when the pole-sitting car failed to start. The 19-year-old Norwegian was unbeatable from that point on, dominating the way to the finish despite a pesky safety-car situation. He was able to celebrate his maiden win in the series on one of the world's most legendary stages.

After taking avoiding action at the start, Daruvala managed his race to perfection, keeping the chasing drivers comfortably at bay and managing his pace to maximize the points available. By doing so, the 23-year-old Indian was able to gain valuable ground in terms of the driver championship.

#1 - Dennis Hauger
“First time here and to get the win it’s a really nice feeling. I got a decent start while obviously, Hughes stalled. From that point, I managed the tyres and the safety car as well. In the beginning, I struggled a little bit in getting everything into temperature, but from that point on, I felt the pace was really good and I could really push. Overall I’m really happy with the day and I think we can do a good job tomorrow as well.”

#2 - Jehan Daruvala
“I think it was a good race, we maximized the results and also got a 1-2 for the team. Overall I had a good start. I had to get around Jake and I was quite strong until the safety car. We just have to look in terms of tyre warming because I think I damaged my left front tyre after the safety car. Our car is good, tomorrow there could be good opportunities maybe even with the mixed weather. I’m looking forward to using my experience and moving up the field.”
