R02 - Monte Carlo - FIA Formula 2 Race Preview

The FIA Formula 2 Championship is making a welcome return to the streets of Monte Carlo. After the Monaco Grand Prix was cancelled last season due to the pandemic, it's time for the action to get back underway in the Principality, and PREMA Racing is looking forward to racing at the world's most iconic street venue. Monaco is always a challenge of its own, where the tight track width and the proximity of the barriers go hand in hand with a glamorous atmosphere.

The team will line up at the 3.3-km venue aware of the potential shown in the opening round at Sakhir, which included a win by 20-year-old Australian Oscar Piastri at his series debut.

Robert Shwartzman also showed impressive pace and the 21-year-old Russian is hoping to put everything together to fight as a frontrunner. Both the Ferrari Driver Academy racer and his Alpine Academy teammate have raced at the venue before, but will do so for the first time aboard the powerful Formula 2 machinery.

The weekend will follow a different schedule compared to usual. Practice and qualifying will be held on Thursday, while Sprint Race 1 will take place Friday. Sprint Race 2 and the Feature Race will bring the weekend to a close on Saturday.

Rene Rosin - Team Principal
"It's been almost two months since the first round of the season and we worked hard to prepare for Monte Carlo, although it is such a unique and challenging track that it's always difficult to be fully prepared for what can happen there. We think we showed good potential in Bahrain and that we have what we need to execute a good weekend. It would be great to fight at the front with both drivers and we are focused in making that happen."
