Crawford scores third consecutive podium finish

R03 - Barcelona - FIA Formula 3 Race 1 Report

PREMA Racing scored a second-place finish today at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya as American Red Bull Junior racer Jak Crawford achieved his third consecutive podium finish in the FIA Formula 3 Championship Sprint Race. The American had a quick start to P2 and then gave chase to the leading car. A small off to avoid a potential incident eventually forced him to be content with P2.

Championship leader Arthur Leclerc ended up fourth. The Monegasque Ferrari Driver Academy member started from P7 from the reverse grid after a positive qualifying effort yesterday and was able to gain ground despite the lack of passing opportunities.

It was not an easy run for series rookie Ollie Bearman. After starting from P6, the British racer did not gain the right confidence with the car and conditions and struggled to keep the pace.

Ahead of the Feature Race, which will be tomorrow, Leclerc and Crawford are first and second in the driver championship respectively.

#4 - Arthur Leclerc

"It was a good race, I'm happy with the result, obviously I would have preferred to score a podium but the speed is there. Here it's really hard to overtake but we managed to take all the opportunities that we got, and now we keep our heads down for tomorrow."

#5 - Jak Crawford

"It was one of my best races. I pushed quite a bit to catch Vidales, and once I caught him and tried to attack and there was the side-by-side situation, I think I was a bit frustrated and maybe over pushed. Obviously, I'm happy with second and happy with the points, I hoped I could win the race but at the end of the day, it's only one point. Another time I'll do better in saving the tyres and hopefully we can get good points again."

#6 - Ollie Bearman

"It was a tough race. The first couple of laps were not bad, I think I dropped one position but then I really struggled with the tyres and had quite a lot of understeer so I couldn't keep up the pace. I was under attack from many other drivers and we need to work tonight to fix that for tomorrow to hopefully have a better race."
