Crawford shines in red flag-hit Zandvoort qualifying
Jak Crawford delivered a fine performance in Qualifying at Zandvoort. The Red Bull Junior American posted the third-fastest lap of the session and is now in a good position for the rest of the weekend. The 17-year-old maximised the final run that, for many other drivers, was conditioned by a safety car.
That was the case for teammates Ollie Bearman and Arthur Leclerc. The British racer was deprived of what was becoming a fast flying lap in the closing moments and will have to start both races from P14.
The Monegasque faced more struggles as he fought for pace throughout the day and was eventually hit by the neutralization and early stoppage as well. Leclerc rounded out the top-20. He will have to start both races from the 10th row.
#4 - Arthur Leclerc
“It has been a tough qualifying as we were lacking some speed, and even without the red flag, we didn’t seem to catch up a lot. We need to understand and analyze what happened and hopefully try to maximize the situation in the races.”
#5 - Jak Crawford
“It was a really good qualifying for me. We weren’t the quickest today, and we didn’t have the speed for pole, but I think I did a pretty good lap and got a bit lucky at the end with the red flag. It’s good to be back in the top-3 as it puts us in a really good position for the rest of the weekend, and we hope to get ourselves back into the championship.”
#6 - Ollie Bearman
“Tough qualifying. I was struggling in the first two runs a bit, but I managed to get it together for the last run and do a decent lap. It was going to be P6, but we got a red flag just as I crossed the line. I missed out on the lap time, and now we start in P14. Long weekend ahead of us, we’ll try to get some points out of it.”
