Rafael Camara moves to FRECA with PREMA Racing for 2023

Brazilian racer Rafael Camara will race with PREMA in the 2023 Formula Regional European Championship, making a key step from Formula 4 to complete the team’s three-car line-up.

The 17-year-old racer, who is supported by the Ferrari Driver Academy program, debuted in single-seaters at the beginning of the year and immediately rose to the occasion in the Formula 4 UAE Championship, where he amassed six wins despite having to miss one round.

Throughout the European season, he added three more overall wins and ended up third overall in the Italian and German Formula 4 Championships. He also clinched the rookie title in the German series where he took rookie wins in almost every race of his part-time season.

Camara has already started intense preparations for the season and is readying for the next chapter of his career.

Rene Rosin - Team Principal

“Rafael proved really competitive in his single-seater debut and was a quick race winner. In addition, he made quite some improvements in 2022 and proved worthy of making the step to a challenging new series. Being a rookie in FRECA won’t be easy for sure, but I’m confident he will be an outstanding competitor and will make many more steps forward.”

Rafael Camara

"I am pleased to continue my journey with PREMA in the 2023 Formula Regional European Championship. Although I will be competing in a new category being able to continue my path with one of the most historical team in junior categories is extremely valuable. We know each other pretty well after one year but already many races together, which gives us a solid starting point to achieve success. I have already started working on my mental and physical preparation, have tested the car in the past months, and am excited for the 2023 season to start. I would like to thank the Ferrari Driver Academy, PREMA, and of course my sponsors who have all been instrumental in making this project come to life”.
