PREMA Racing, Ollie Bearman secure stellar pole position

R04 Baku - FIA Formula 2 Qualifying Report

PREMA Racing secured pole position for the FIA Formula 2 Championship weekend at Baku City Circuit with Ollie Bearman. The British rookie, who already cruised to the front of the pack in practice, was highly impressive throughout the whole session and eventually sealed the deal with a late flying lap.

To make it even more special, the fact that the Ferrari Driver Academy driver overcame a tap against the wall in his penultimate lap to take his maiden pole.

Frederik Vesti delivered a brilliant performance for the team with P4 in qualifying, after being a contender most of the time and leading the pack early with his second set of tyres. On the fast seashore section, slipstream has once again been key. His final flying lap was only seven hundreds of a second away from pole, in an incredibly tight finish.

#7 - Frederik Vesti
"We ended up P4 in free practice and P4 in qualy, that's good. I think starting from the top-5 we should be able to do podiums pretty regularly, so this result is important. Pole was definitely possible, I was P1 after the first lap but missed a bit of a tow for the second but it's still a very strong job for myself and the team. We will be fighting for points tomorrow and on Sunday. We know we have a good car for the races so we just need to stay out of trouble and do the maximum we can."

#8 - Ollie Bearman
"It has been a really nice qualy, a bit of a crazy one but I'm so happy to take pole position as it's the result of a lot of hard work. I knew coming into the weekend that we had a fast car and the team has been really strong here in the past, so I knew I would be fighting at the front. I just had to put it together and I managed that in my qualifying session. I'm really happy to start from pole for the feature race. In the end, I was not expecting it because I had a bit of damage to the car. I was actually ready to pit at the end of my first lap and I got pole in the second one. Thank you to the team! It feels great and I'm looking forward to doing a good job in the races."
