PREMA Racing, Bearman power to Feature Race win at Baku

R04 Baku - FIA Formula 2 Race 2 Report

PREMA Racing and Ollie Bearman signed off a perfect weekend at Baku City Circuit. After storming back from the reverse grid to win race 1, the British racer dominated Sunday's Feature Race from pole, leading the early stages before pitting for the prime tyres. He then reclaimed P1 when all the other contenders on the opposite strategy made their mandatory stop.

Coming to the Azerbaijani street course, the team could rely on a strong record and even improved on the results of the past with a full hat-trick by the Ferrari Driver Academy-backed racer who has now vaulted to P4 in the driver standings.

Frederik Vesti delivered another positive run in P5. The Danish ace, who ended race 1 in P2, harvested points for his championship chase with a solid run from the start despite a difficult late run on options. He is now a close second in the driver championship.

PREMA is now looking forward to further improvement for the first home round of the year at Imola, having captured the lead in the team championship

#7 - Frederik Vesti
"P5 is not too bad, but not great as well even if I'm quite happy with the weekend. We were fast in every session, just in race 2 we were struggling a bit on option tyres. That meant I had to box early, got stuck in the traffic coming from the overcut, and therefore had a little bit of a difficult race. Looking at our pace, we probably deserved P5, which is where we ended. We scored some good points and we can be really happy about 95% of this weekend. We just need to fine-tune for the future. We stay motivated and keep working."

#8 - Ollie Bearman
"It has been a really successful weekend here in Baku. We got two wins, which is an amazing result. From the outside, it might have looked a bit easy, but it's never easy, especially at this track where the tyres don't really suffer and you're doing qualifying laps again and again. It is super difficult, especially with a lot of pressure behind, like at the start when I had Pourchaire pushing a lot. However, I knew what to do when he passed me and I fought back. I controlled it after that. Fittipaldi was coming towards me at the end but I managed to keep the gap stable and got this great result which gives me a lot of confidence heading into the European rounds where I know the tracks. That is going to help me a bit so I'm looking forward to heading over there. Let's keep this up."
