PREMA Racing has tricky run in Monza Race 1
PREMA Racing didn't experience the easiest start for its home weekend at Monza as the FIA Formula 3 Championship went underway at the Italian circuit.
Starting from the fourth row of the grid after his third place in qualifying, Paul Aron was involved in an early contact which punctured his left rear tyre. The Estonian couldn't slow down his car for the first chicane, plowing into the pack, and was forced to retire.
Zak O'Sullivan had a hard-fought run especially in the closing stages when the battle heated up considerably. The British racer picked up a contact penalty that eventually dropped back to P12 and outside the points zone.
Following yesterday's eventful qualifying session, Dino Beganovic had to start from the back and steadily improved his position over the 18-lap distance. The Swede eventually finished in P14.
#1 PAUL ARON
"We started from P10 after having a good qualifying yesterday. I got tapped from behind in the beginning, and that caused me a puncture. After that, I couldn't stop the car, and I crashed into some other drivers in T1. Obviously, it's a shame because we didn't get any information about the race at all, and tomorrow is a very important race. We can only look ahead now and focus on tomorrow's race."
#2 DINO BEGANOVIC
"We got unlucky at the start, wrong side and we had to avoid a collision. The restart was good, and the pace was good. We lacked a bit of pace at the end of the race. Still, good information for tomorrow. Overall, I'm not happy, but it's OK."
#3 ZAK O'SULLIVAN
"P11 in the end after a 10-second penalty. It has been a tricky race with sixth place on the road but contact gave us a penalty. Just at the end, people started battling and we dropped out of the points. It's one of these things, another shot tomorrow."
