PREMA Racing takes 8th win of 2023 with Frederik Vesti

R12 Monza - FIA Formula 2 Race 1 Report

Frederik Vesti claimed his fifth win of the season as the Danish driver and PREMA Racing led from start to finish in race 1 of the FIA Formula 2 Championship at the Italian venue. For PREMA, it is the 8th win of the 2023 season.

Vesti, who qualified in P8 yesterday, started from P3 for the reverse-grid Sprint Race and vaulted to the lead with a blistering start. He then managed to keep his competitors at bay through two safety-car restarts. While he inched back closer to the points lead, he is fully focused on the Feature Race tomorrow.

Ollie Bearman delivered a brilliant points finish. The British rookie was shuffled outside the top 10 in a first-corner melee. He then proceeded to put up an extra-solid race, gaining as much ground as possible and making good use of the safety-car situations. He will start tomorrow's Feature Race from the front row.

#7 FREDERIK VESTI

"It's P1 in the Sprint Race in Monza! It's a great way to bounce back after two difficult rounds in Spa and Zandvoort. I'm very happy with the car today. The start was good, and everything went as planned. The big race is tomorrow, starting from P8, so it's full focus on that as we need to do a great job. Still, it feels great to be back on the podium."

#8 OLLIE BEARMAN

"Not a bad comeback after a tough first lap. I ended up in P12 on lap 1 after a lot of people cut the first chicane and didn't give back the position. However, we managed to make a good comeback. The pace was really good, although it was really difficult to overtake. I had some good safety-car restarts, and it was a decent race in the end. I'm looking forward to tomorrow starting a bit further up the front. The car was good, so we can go for a good result."
