Jamaican American karting star makes full-time F4 switch
PREMA Racing is delighted to announce that Alex Powell will step up full-time with the team in 2024. The Jamaican American racer, who made a remarkable debut with the team this year, will compete in the Italian Formula 4 Championship and the Euro4 Championship.
A second-generation racer, Powell made his karting debut in 2015 and quickly emerged as one of the most gifted racers in the sport, competing at the highest level in the USA and Europe. In 2019, he joined the Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS Formula One Team Junior Programme as he continued to progress through the racing ranks.
In early 2023, he joined the brand-new PREMA karting operation with outstanding results. He also began his single-seater journey with the team at Mugello and Vallelunga, quickly moving up the ranks and securing his first points finishes.
For 2024, he will embark on a full-time Italian F4 and Euro4 journey, with additional appearances to be announced in due course.
Angelo Rosin - Team Principal
"Alex is a really promising driver. We followed him during his early years, and we were delighted to welcome him to our new karting team for 2023. When he made the step up to cars, he was impressive despite the steep learning curve and made solid improvements every time he went on track. He will be the first PREMA karting driver to transition to single-seaters, and we are looking forward to seeing what's ahead for us."
