PREMA seals off tough Bahrain weekend with points finish

R02 Bahrain - FIA Formula 2 Race 2 Report

PREMA Racing completed the Bahrain FIA Formula 2 round with a points finish today at the Sakhir venue as Gabriele Minì posted a 9th place in the Feature Race.

It was again not an easy race for the PREMA drivers. The Italian, who started on the hard-compound tyres, made a relatively early switch to options, and that enabled him to undercut a few competitors after taking off from P12 to secure his second points finish of the weekend.

After being punted out of yesterday's Sprint Race, Sebastian Montoya started from P18 and had to quickly gain confidence with the track, featuring higher temperatures and lower grip compared to earlier testing.

The Colombian-American started on the softer option tyres and also came in early for the switch to hards. He had a consistent second part of the race, but a pit speeding penalty dropped him down to P19.

The team will be back for round 3 of the 2025 series next weekend at Jeddah Corniche Circuit.

#9 - SEBASTIAN MONTOYA
"It's been a difficult Feature Race today. Being my first Feature Race and missing yesterday's Sprint was quite difficult because the conditions were different compared with the test. At the start, I decided to go around the outside in T2. I thought that the softer tyre would have had more grip, but I couldn't put the traction down, and I was pushed wide, losing a couple of positions. From there, I was recovering well. We just missed speed where we could have made overtakes. We boxed early to get the undercut, which I think was the correct decision at that point, but we were caught out on that because it was a bit early. We found some pace in the end, but it was missing in the places where we needed to save the tyres a bit more. We need to analyze what we need and what we could have done better, and regroup for Jeddah."

#10 - GABRIELE MINÌ

"We struggled again at the start and got wheelspin straight away. Other than that, we were struggling with the pace. We knew it was going to be hard but we still tried to undercut some people which, in the end, was probably the best choice even though tyre degradation didn't help. Today we maximized what we had. We have a race weekend straight away. We can analyze the data, work, and see what to do for the next."
