After competing in round 2 in Bahrain, PREMA Racing will continue its Middle Eastern stint as the FIA Formula 2 Championship hits Jeddah Corniche Circuit. The series is making its fifth appearance at the Saudi Arabian venue, which has become a traditional feature on the series' calendar.
The PREMA pairing of Gabriele Minì and Sebastian Montoya will race in Jeddah for the first time as they are F2 rookies. The Italian scored points in all three races held so far and delivered a stellar qualifying run in Melbourne, so he is looking to step up again. On the other hand, the Colombian American was also hampered by bad luck after being punted out of the opening race in Sakhir, which impacted the rest of his weekend.
Despite being a temporary street track, Jeddah is a high-speed one featuring permanent components and flowing on the Red Sea shore. The track, where PREMA achieved positive results in the past, is tricky for temperatures and management. While the surface is smooth, the fast corners and the grip generate heat, which can lead to tyre wear concerns. Drivers might also be affected by environmental variables as temperatures in excess of 30 degrees celsius are expected.
For this event, series supplier Pirelli will bring the the P-Zero Yellow medium tyres as the Prime choice with the Purple supersofts as the Option.
RENÉ ROSIN - Team Principal
"Coming from a challenging weekend in Bahrain, we are looking forward to being back among the leading contenders in Saudi Arabia. Once again, qualifying is set to be crucial and it's imperative for us to maximize it. We know we have potential as we demonstrated in the series opener, and we think Jeddah might be a good one for us also based on our past experiences. We need to hit the ground running as soon as possible and keep executing. I'm confident that things can come into place from that."
