Sebastian Montoya and Gabriele Minì delivered two solid qualifying runs to secure good grid placements for the FIA Formula 2 Championship weekend at Monte Carlo.
Both drivers fought at the front of the pack. The Italian ran in the A group, involving the even-numbered cars, and was in the battle for the top three, before paving his way to fourth place. Due to the B group leader being the quickest, Minì will take off from P8 in the Feature Race.
On the other hand, the Colombian-American delivered a strong all-around performance, battling closely for the lead, and ended up third in group B despite a late nudge to the wall. Montoya will thus be starting from P5 in the Feature Race.
#9 SEBASTIAN MONTOYA
"Good qualifying especially considering where we were yesterday. I was really happy with the car, really confident. It's a shame that I damaged my right front tyre in turn 1, but otherwise, it was a solid run. In the last lap, I was trying to go for the last bit that we were missing. I made a little mistake in sector 2 and tried to compensate for that in sector 3, but the tyres weren't there anymore. I think the team did an amazing job and a really good step from yesterday, and we really showed some improvements in the last two weekends. I'm happy to start in a position where I can score points in both races."
#10 GABRIELE MINÌ
"Just finished qualifying here in Monaco and we ended up P4 in our group, really close to P2. We struggled a bit at the beginning, but the third push was the one that we missed just more than the others. Generally, we were always in the top 3 spots, and I think we improved from FP in terms of balance. We have some extra pace to find and we'll try to work on it overnight. It will be very hard because overtakes are quite difficult at this track, but let's see for Sunday's races with the strategies."
