Montoya grabs stellar podium finish in Silverstone Sprint Race

R08 Silverstone - FIA Formula 2 Race 1 Report

Sebastian Montoya handed PREMA Racing a brilliant result at Silverstone as he drove through the reverse grid to take a second-place finish in the Sprint Race. The Colombian American started from the sixth spot on the grid and quickly improved his position to P3. On Lap 15, he dived to take P2 at Stowe and started chasing the leader, eventually finishing in an extremely positive podium position.

Gabriele Minì showed impressive pace, making noticeable steps compared to yesterday's qualifying. The Italian gained multiple positions from P16 to cross the finish line in P12, but was later penalized for contact and dropped to P14. Still, he displayed a strong potential that he hopes to carry into the Feature Race tomorrow.

With weather potentially coming into play, the team will be back for more action in tomorrow's Feature Race.

#9 SEBASTIAN MONTOYA

"A very good sprint race, the car has been mega all weekend. I'm really happy with the race pace we have. I had a very good start and had a lot of patience, managing the tyres. It was quite difficult to try and overtake Maini at the beginning because he was quite strong, but as soon as he started to drop, we were able to pass. I tried to catch Fornaroli at the end, but he managed the tyres quite well. There is still more to be found; we keep working for tomorrow, see the conditions, and the race pace."

#10 GABRIELE MINÌ

"The Sprint Race was a good step from yesterday. We got a decent start and gained a few positions straight away. We made more overtakes, but during the race, we started having more degradation. It was complicated to try and make moves on people with the DRS train. Then there was a contact, and I could catch the cars in front, but it was a DRS train again. I'm quite happy with the step compared to yesterday, and we can still improve a bit. We will see what we can do tomorrow."
