PREMA faces challenges in home race qualifying

R11 Monza - FIA Formula 2 Qualifying Report

PREMA Racing had a complicated qualifying session today at Monza, as the FIA Formula 2 Championship got underway at the Italian Grand Prix.

Gabriele Minì lost power after three laps and had to stop on the track. The Italian ended up in P15 with his first and only push lap, showing how much potential for improvement he could still have had with proper runs in the final part of the session.

The situation prompted a red flag, which, in addition to a further interruption, hampered the efforts of Sebastian Montoya, who ultimately didn't complete a single push lap to finish in P22. A comeback is in the cards for both PREMA drivers in both the upcoming races.

#9 SEBASTIAN MONTOYA

"Difficult qualifying here in Monza. We prioritised the second run, but two red flags in succession wiped away our chances. That's pretty much it. It's a shame, but the car feels quite good. Focus on the races, and if there's one place we can overtake, it's here. We have done it all season. Head down, and focus on the races."

#10 GABRIELE MINÌ

"Just finished qualifying, it was a short one for us. We just did the warm-up, the out lap and the first push. I think we corrected all the issues we had in free practice, and I think there was good potential. It's a shame, we could have fought for a top five but we lost power and had to stop. We will see what happens in the race."
