PREMA posts double points finish in Baku Feature Race

R12 Baku - FIA Formula 2 Race 2 Report

PREMA Racing claimed a double points finish in the FIA Formula 2 Feature Race at Baku Street Circuit.
The race was conditioned by an early safety-car situation that led all teams that had started on option tyres to double-stack drivers in their pit-stop.

Gabriele Minì had a strong start, moving up to P2. The Italian exited the pit-stop in the lead and briefly held the point. He then dropped back a bit, dealing with rear tyre degradation, but stayed out of trouble to finish in P4.

Sebastian Montoya also had a blistering start, gaining multiple positions and setting himself up for a comeback. Unfortunately, he lost spots due to pitting right behind his teammate, and was later boxed on the outside of the first corner at the restart.  After that, he was running in P15, but gained positions in the final part of the race to secure the final point in P10.

#9 SEBASTIAN MONTOYA

"It was an interesting and fun race. I really enjoyed the car as we made a great step, and I felt more confident, which is good. We had a good start, and tried to take care of the tyres at the beginning and close the gap while waiting for the pit window to open. Then there was a safety-car and had to double stack. I lost a lot of positions in the pits, and in the restart, the car I was battling with moved, so I got stuck on the outside. I lost more positions there, but we had very good speed and we were able to get them back to finish into the top-10. I'm happy with the pace we had and the steps we made. There are still some things to work on, but I'm looking forward to the break to keep working and come back stronger for the last two rounds."

#10 GABRIELE MINÌ

"Just finished the Feature Race, and I think it was really well executed. We made a good start, gained a place even though we missed a tiny bit of pace at the beginning. We got a safety car early on, and we did a mega job in the pits going out in P1. I made a small mistake but managed to get back to P1 again. I tried to follow Crawford, but we dropped quite a lot with the rear tyres. In the end, it was P4. Good points, but still some work to do. Now it's time for a break, and we'll come back in Qatar."
