PREMA announces Garfias for 2026 FIA Formula 3 season

21-year-old Mexican set to join the team in Barcelona test

PREMA Racing is delighted to announce that José Garfias will compete with the team in the 2026 FIA Formula 3 Championship. The Mexican racer will be making its first full-time foray in the series and will join the team for the upcoming round of preseason testing at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. He will be partnering fellow teammates James Wharton and Louis Sharp.

Born in San Luis in 2004, Garfias started his karting career in 2016 and moved to single-seater racing in 2020, taking part in the NACAM F4 Championship to end up as the best rookie.

In 2021, he entered European racing, competing part-time in both the GB3 Championship and the Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine. For 2023, he switched to the Eurocup-3 series, securing five podiums en route to fourth place in points.

His 2024 season featured two part-time campaigns in Eurocup-3 and in the Euroformula Open, in which he achieved multiple podiums, while 2025 saw him claim three wins and 4th in points in the Euroformula Open. Last year, he also made his debut in the FIA Formula 3 Championship and in the Macau GP.

As the team is looking forward to welcoming him for the season ahead, PREMA Racing also want to express its best wishes to Enzo Deligny in his next career endeavour.

Goffredo Pirro - Team Manager
“We are happy to welcome José for the season. Even though he will be competing full-time in the series for the first time this year, he has a good amount of experience in Eurocup-3 and Euroformula Open, so I think he will quickly adapt himself to the new environment and get positive results.”

José Garfias
“Ready to take on this new challenge with PREMA in F3. It’s a big step in the right direction for my career. Racing in F3 is something that I have been working towards for the last few years, and doing it with PREMA means a lot to me.  Very thankful for everyone who is making this possible, and grateful to PREMA for giving me the opportunity to prove myself on a bigger stage. I’m ready to make the most of it.”
