In late 2016 he returned to road racing, and in 2018 he got back to Formula 1 as a reserve driver for Williams in F1. In one of the biggest comebacks in racing history, he competed for Williams in the 2019 Formula 1 season and continued as a reserve driver for the Alfa Romeo Racing Orlen Team.
