Coming from the Formula Europa Boxer 1995 title, Barbosa joined PREMA in 1996, ending up second in the Italian Formula 3 Championship. In the following years, he turned his attentions to Endurance racing, becoming one of the most successful drivers in recent American Sportscar Racing history. Barbosa established himself as the most versatile driver of his era for having claimed four Daytona 24 Hours wins over 15 years, with four different rule packages. He also won the United SportsCar Championship twice in 2014 and 2015 and the 12 Hours of Sebring in 2015.
