Nationality: Italian
Birthday: June 17th, 1964
Raced for PREMA in: 1986
Famous for:
Three Le Mans 24 Hours wins
After driving for PREMA in 1986, Capello left single-seaters a few years later for touring cars, where he joined Audi Sport in 1993. He was selected to be part of the new Audi Quattro project, and scored countless wins in the following years, including the 1996 Italian Touring Car title. In 1998, he was promoted to the newly-formed Audi endurance division, probably the most successful program in sportscar history. He won Le Mans three times, with three second places and three third places, the 12 Hours of Sebring and Petit Le Mans five times. Capello also claimed the ALMS title in USA. His influence for Audi was so high that he was one of the few drivers to receive one of his Le Mans cars as a gift, and he still operates an Audi dealership. Having retired from international competition in 2012, he still races from time to time in Italy.
