PREMA Racing set for traditional trip to Barcelona
The FIA Formula 2 Championship is coming back from the classic trip to Monte Carlo, and will enter another of the most traditional venues in the history of the series. PREMA Racing will be back to Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, which is home to competition and testing for most of its championship programs thanks to its complete layout of fast and medium corners.
The team is coming from a complicated run at Monte Carlo that showed good potential, although the challenges of an extremely tight city track put obstacles in the way. At the Spanish venue, there will be opportunities to take although the pack is expected to be extremely tight also because of pre-season and in-season testing there.
Andrea Kimi Antonelli secured two points finishes in Monte Carlo, and is looking for the first podium of his rookie season after three fourth places to improve P6 in the championship. Ollie Bearman had his ups and downs this year and is equally aiming to make a step and finalize his potential.
The weather is expected to be great in Barcelona, while tyre management might be tricky. Series partner Pirelli will bring three sets per car of white hard tyres as the Prime choice, while the P-Zero red softs will be the Options.
RENÉ ROSIN - Team Principal
"We are ready for a crucial round of the championship. Barcelona is kind of a second home for many teams, as it is home to a variety of testing programs, so we expect one of the highest competitive levels of the championship. It also marks the start of an all-European stint for the season, where momentum will be extremely important to transfer the positive from one place to the other. We know that Kimi and Ollie have excellent potential, and we look forward to supporting them."
