Sebastian Montoya secured a ninth-place finish in today FIA Formula 2 Sprint Race at Imola. The young Colombian, who was starting from P9 following a positive qualifying showing, had a difficult getaway but showed impressive pace although with DRS trains forming on a twisty track, chances for a recovery were always going to be limited. Montoya was still be able to catch up to the same position where he had started.
Gabriele Minì was coming from a troubled qualifying but was looking set for a recovery with a clean run. Unfortunately, he was touched by a competitor in the opening lap, which jeopardized his chances. Tasked with a tough effort, Minì pushed hard and fought back to P16, showing a positive pace that makes him and the team look forward to tomorrow with confidence.
#9 SEBASTIAN MONTOYA
"Interesting race today. Not a great start, I’ll be honest, but I’d rather do this today and have a better one tomorrow. I was just trying to learn lap by lap and understand the tyre. It was quite difficult to overtake with the DRS train, and I had to wait for the guy in front to go out of DRS or make a mistake. Happy with the pace, I think it gives us a good baseline to understand what we need for tomorrow and just keep working on it."
#10 GABRIELE MINÌ
"I had a pretty good start, gained two positions, then I got touched and went off. I got back going last with a big gap, so I had to push quite a lot on the tyres to try and overtake, which is never ideal, especially on this track with a softer compound. I managed to gain a few places. I think the pace was not too bad, but of course, it is complicated with traffic. We will watch the data, analyse it, and see what we can do for tomorrow."
