PREMA Racing set for tricky, unique Monte Carlo weekend

R05 Monte Carlo - FIA Formula 2 Race Preview

Coming from a promising weekend that didn't pay the expected dividends at Imola, PREMA Racing will be heading to the classic and glamorous destination Monte Carlo for Round 5 of the 2025 FIA Formula 2 Championship.

It will do so with its full-season pairing of Gabriele Minì and Sebastian Montoya, who are making their Monaco F2 debut. And while the Alpine Academy Italian has great chemistry with Monte Carlo, having won the Feature Race twice in Formula 3, Montoya will count on his good momentum after delivering a P2 in Imola's qualifying and a powerful recovery in the Feature Race in Italy.

As always, qualifying will be the single most important aspect, even more with a tight, unforgiving circuit that maximizes the risk of traffic and yellows,  and provides little to no chance to overtakers. To mitigate the variables, qualifying will be split into groups, but tricky situations are not out of the question. In addition, while the forecasted weather is on the sunny side, there might be minor threats of rain on the way.

Action will start early with Practice on Thursday, while qualifying will go underway on Friday. The Sprint Race on Saturday will be followed by a 42-lap long Feature Race.

As the slow speeds are not too aggressive on the tyres, the tyre choice will be the softest, with three sets of P-Zero Red softs provided by Pirelli as the primes, and two sets of Purple supersofts as the options.

Rene Rosin - Team Principal
"Competing at Monte Carlo is always special, and incredibly tricky. You need to make everything right right from the get go, and qualifying is especially important to shape up an entire weekend. Picking the right strategy for the feature race can be hard too, as there is always a safety-car threat among other variables. We think we made some steps forward at Imola, we will need to put them together and do a solid job all around."
