PREMA, Montoya keep momentum with positive second place

R06 Barcelona - FIA Formula 2 Qualifying Report

PREMA Racing had a double-faced qualifying session today at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, home of qualifying for the FIA Formula 2 Championship at the Spanish Grand Prix. As expected, the pack turned out to be extremely close with every lap potentially making the difference.

Sebastian Montoya delivered yet another brilliant qualifying, securing a front row start for Sunday’s Feature Race after fighting for pole late in the session. The Colombian-American ended a solid session in P2, keeping up a positive momentum.

Teammate Gabriele Minì had a tougher time finding pace and chemistry in the final run, finishing in P18. After the bad luck in Monte Carlo, the Italian will have to go for a recovery drive in both races.

#9  SEBASTIAN MONTOYA

“I’m very very happy with my second P2 of the season. i want to to thank the team because this morning I was really struggling with the car, and it was not exactly where I needed it. I also didn’t do a perfect job either. I understood exactly what I needed and the team did a really good job to understand exactly what I needed for qualifying. The first run was not as I wanted it, but the team understood and we checked everything between the runs. Then I just drove the car and did the best that I could and I was up there. We will use the Sprint Race to make more progress and prepare for Sunday.”

#10  GABRIELE MINÌ

Just finished qualifying. I was P11 with the first set, and we made quite a big change with the car to try and be a bit quicker. For some reason, it didn’t work at all. It’s quite strange: in the second push, it didn’t feel bad until the end of sector 2, then something happened because there was something weird in the corners. We need to analyze what happened and see for the sprint tomorrow.”
