PREMA has tough session despite strong potential at Albert Park

R01 Melbourne - FIA Formula 2 Qualifying Report

The FIA Formula 2 Championship got back underway with Free Practice and Qualifying today, and while the team faced a tough outcome at Albert Park, it showed promising potential ahead of the weekend's two races.

Sebastian Montoya was fast all session long and battled in the top 5 with the #11 car to show consistent speed. The Colombian-American was potentially in contention heading into his final lap, but ended up slightly off line, compromising his last sector. He was forced to settle for P15, although he is looking to rebound in the two races with positive pace.

Making his first start in the series, Spaniard Mari Boya was unable to show his potential after making contact with the barriers early in his first run. He will be starting last in both races with the goal of fighting back towards the points zone."

#11 - SEBASTIAN MONTOYA
“It’s not the result that we wanted, but we seem competitive, the car is strong, and I’m really happy with the steps we have made. I want to thank the team for the hard work since last year. We wanted to have the speed and consistency throughout qualifying, which we were missing, and while Barcelona was not easy, we did a great job in Abu Dhabi, and here we were in the top five the whole session. The final lap was really strong, and we felt we were in contention. It’s a shame for the last sector. We have to look at what happened and how I can avoid it, but I think it was just wrong place, wrong time. Head down for the weekend.”

#12 - MARI BOYA
“Difficult day for me. The car was feeling good, but we will start at the back in both races. Apologies to the team, I will do my best to come back!”
