PREMA Racing wrapped up qualifying for the second round of the FIA Formula 2 season with P16 and P20 at the Miami International Autodrome. Mari Boya and Sebastian Montoya went on track after a promising performance in Free Practice with the goal of delivering a solid run.
Unfortunately, the end result was not the one the team wanted and as the session progressed, both drivers slipped outside the top-15. The team is now working to put everything together and put the potential back into place for the weekend's two races.
#11 - SEBASTIAN MONTOYA
"Today's qualifying was not what I was expecting. This morning we were competitive in practice, and in the first qualifying run we were not super competitive, but we were still fighting for the top 10, which I was happy about. Then we made some changes for run two, which made a lot of sense — it was something we had done in the past and I was very confident in the steps we were doing. However, we were quite far off the pace in the final run. Very hard to swallow. I want to thank the team because they are working really hard to understand exactly what happened. We all know the speed we have and that we can come back in the races. Luckily, the weekend is not over. We keep working, and luckily here the DRS zones work pretty well and we can make some overtakes."
#12 - MARI BOYA
"A difficult first day in Miami. I think we prepared the race very well, but starting from the free practice situation, we were a bit far from what we expected and we couldn't learn as much as we needed for qualifying. Considering how tight the pack is, the final position is not the one we wanted to be in. We still have two races to go and a lot to learn, and we are making steps lap by lap. All things considered, we are not too far. We just have to put everything together to fight for the goals we want to achieve.”
