From one of the most legendary European venues to another, the FIA Formula Regional European Championship will move from Zandvoort to Spa-Francorchamps this weekend, heading for one of the most anticipated rounds of the year. A fierce, ruthlessly technical and unforgiving venue, Spa sits perched in the Belgian Ardennes forest with its 7-kilometre layout made of fast corners, high elevation changes and an unpredictable environment.
PREMA Racing returns to action just days after a positive outing in the Netherlands handed the team two podiums.
Kean Nakamura-Berta showed plenty of front-running potential. He quickly broke through to his first FIA FREC win in the Red Bull Ring opener and achieved another podium with a P2 in round 2. Aware of his high potential, the Williams F1 Team Driver Academy member will be looking for more success in Spa.
Salim Hanna and Tomass Stolcermanis are setting their sights on consistency. The Colombian is fresh off his maiden podium and even challenged for victory in Zandvoort, while the Latvian has been in contention at the front, showing his ability to learn quickly despite the limited amount of running early in the year.
As always in Spa, the weather will play its part all weekend, with potential rain acting as a disruptor or equalizer depending on the situation. Preparation and response will be essential, especially with a three-race weekend format.
STEPHEN MITAS - TEAM PRINCIPAL & CEO
"It is a great feeling to be heading to Spa-Francorchamps, another truly legendary circuit and one that demands the very best from both drivers and teams. We showed genuine speed at Zandvoort and were very much in the fight for wins, which was an encouraging sign of the potential within this team. Spa will bring its own set of challenges. We are looking forward to putting everything together, improving our consistency, and showcasing what we are truly capable of."
