The FIA Formula 2 Championship is set to get back into action of at its most glamorous playground this weekend as the F1 support series arrives at the Monaco Grand Prix with a tight field and points situation for the fourth consecutive event on a temporary venue.
Monte Carlo is certainly unique. Not only is it a street course, but it can be defined as the street course of street courses compared to new-generation venues. It is short, extremely tight and features almost no runoff space to make up for mistakes. For this reason, qualifying is considered to be as important as the races themselves, so much so that the field is split into groups to allow for more breathing room and less traffic.
PREMA Racing has certainly seen its share of challenges in the three opening rounds of the year, but has proved its resilience, bouncing back to the top 10 in every occasion.
Colombian-American Sebastian Montoya stands 11th in the Drivers' Championship and secured points finishes in every Feature Race held so far between Melbourne, Miami and Montreal. He is also a former podium finisher at Monte Carlo having achieved third place in the 2025 Feature Race. Mari Boya also has good chemistry with Monte Carlo, where he achieved a podium finish in FIA Formula 3 last year. The Spaniard has achieved two points finishes this year and he is all set in to make more progress.
It will be a matter of perfect execution, especially in qualifying and in the pits - the gains made there will be crucial in the pursuit of success, and every mistake will carry a heavy weight.
In addition to the qualifying split, the programme will be adapted to the unique weekend, with one session per day starting from Free Practice on Thursday. Teams and drivers will wrap up the weekend on Sunday at 9:25 AM.
Stephen Mitas - Team Principal & CEO
"It is always special to return to Monte Carlo. There is truly no place like it in motorsport, and the glamour and uniqueness of this circuit are genuinely inspiring. At the same time, it presents a very particular set of challenges, as a street circuit demands an exceptional level of precision and commitment from drivers and teams. Qualifying will be absolutely critical here, and that is the area where we are most focused on coming from an encouraging weekend close at Montreal. We are looking forward to the challenge and confident that this group has what it takes to make a strong impression."
