Reviving an outstanding and successful history, SJM Theodore Racing by Prema is ready to line-up for the 64th running of the Macau Grand Prix. The Italian squad will be back on-track for the renowned event held at the Guia Circuit, and after securing the team title in the 2017 FIA Formula 3 European Championship, they will look for more glory at Macau in a race that already handed them three wins over the last six years. The tough street circuit features a sensational 6.1-kilometer layout including tight sections and long straights with no runoff areas. In an increased effort from 2016, Prema will line-up four Mercedes-powered Dallara racecars.
The driver line-up will be the same that entered the European series, in order to maximize the chemistry with the team and cars. Maximilian Günther, who finished third in the European series, will be driving the #9 car while Callum Ilott, who took fourth place in points and rounded out the top-5 in the 2016 Grand Prix, will sport #7 at his first appearance under the Ferrari Driver Academy banner. He will join teammate and fellow FDA man Guanyu Zhou, who has been part of the Italian manufacturer’s program in the last few years. The Chinese racer will also be racing at home which will hopefully provide him with great additional motivation. Last but not least, 18-year-old Mick Schumacher will be lining up for the first time at Macau to complete a positive debut season in Formula 3.
Before hitting the track for practice, the drivers already enjoyed a raft of promotional activities for the delight of the local crowd. Racing activity will begin with the running of the first free session on Thursday.
René Rosin - Team Manager
“We are delighted to be back in such a spectacular event and to partner a historic name in motorsports like Theodore Racing. The Macau Grand Prix will be incredibly challenging as usual, and we relied on our full-time Formula 3 driver line-up in order to maximize our experience together. It’s great to keep working with these talented individuals and we hope that the results will eventually prove us right. There are many environmental variables at Macau, starting from a unique race track and a special event schedule, but look forward to getting back in the saddle in such an amazing weekend. We will rely on our team spirit to get the job done once again”.
