PREMA has top-5 run in maiden Melbourne qualifying

R02 Melbourne - FIA Formula 3 Qualifying Report

PREMA Racing signed off its first FIA Formula 3 qualifying session in Melbourne today, with Zak O'Sullivan headlining the team's effort in P5. The British racer claimed P5 in a challenging session that featured multiple incidents and two red-flag situations.

Navigating the high-speed temporary Albert Park venue, O'Sullivan edged teammate Paul Aron by 0.04 seconds, with the Estonian rookie making positive gains all around.

Bahrain podium finisher Dino Beganovic ended up in P8 as he did not find the chemistry he needed in terms of the single lap around Albert Park. The Swede is looking forward to a comeback in the opening race with the reverse top-10 grid for the sprint race helping him make a rebound.

#1 – Paul Aron
“Qualifying here in Melbourne is done. Driving on this track is a lot of fun, especially in qualifying. The track improved a lot from practice after Formula 1, you can really feel the grip improvement. In the end, we are P6, which coming from Bahrain is an improvement and we can be happy about that. This is the first time for everyone on this track, which levels the playing field, but we can be satisfied with this result for my second race in F3, on a high-speed city track like Melbourne. We’re still missing a bit compared to the guys in front, so we’ll definitely have a look and see where we can find some time, but I think it’s quite a good baseline for the weekend.”

#2 – Dino Beganovic
“A bit disappointed with P8 in qualifying, I felt we could have done better today but we have two races now. We need to get to work and look at the data. Overall, quite disappointed, but we’ll do our best to make a step for the races.

#3 – Zak O’Sullivan
“Qualifying done, we got P5 in the end with quite a chaotic session with a couple of red flags. For sure we have some work to do but we start for both races there or thereabouts. You can definitely overtake here so looking forward to it.”
