Aron claims maiden FIA F3 win in Spielberg sprint race

R05 Spielberg - FIA Formula 3 Race 1 Report

Paul Aron claimed his maiden FIA Formula 3 Championship win today at Spielberg, running in the sprint race of round 5 at the Austrian venue.

The Estonian, who had lost a shot at the pole for a track limits infringement in qualifying, started fast from P8 and delivered a swift recovery to the lead.

Zak O'Sullivan ended up in fourth place as he also managed the tight situations to secure points for his championship chase.

Finishing in P8, Dino Beganovic made the most out of a tricky day. Starting from P11 on the reverse grid the Swede lost position in the opening lap but was able to fight back to the points zone with an extremely solid run.

However, the thoughts of everyone in the team go to the family, friends, and team of Dilano van 't Hoff, who sadly lost his life in a tragic crash at Spa-Francorchamps.

#1 Paul Aron

"Today we achieved a great result. However, it was really sad to hear the news coming from Spa, and I want to send my sympathies to Dilano's family and friends. Generally speaking, I'm satisfied with our work and I think we really deserved the win. We had the potential for pole position yesterday, and it is kind of a redemption today after losing it to track limits. The car was fast, and I hope we can keep the momentum going for tomorrow."

#2 Dino Beganovic

"First of all, I want to send my condolences to the family of Dilano van 't Hoff. It was very tough news, and it moves everything else to the background. Speaking about today's race, I got a little hit in T1 after the start, and so I lost all the momentum to T3. From P15 to P8 it was a good recovery, and the pace was really good in the end. I picked up some spots with some good fighting. In the end, I think it was a positive run overall."

#3 Zak O'Sullivan

"Quite a hectic race, it was very wet at the start, and it was hard to see, but I just picked up a few cars throughout the race and another one on the last lap. The pace was good throughout, and we scored good points for P4.  Of course, the news coming from Spa really saddened us. My heartfelt thoughts are with Dilano's family and friends."
