R05 Monza - FIA WEC Race Preview

PREMA Racing set for home race at legendary Italian venue

The PREMA Racing FIA World Endurance Championship team will be back on-track this weekend at Monza, and coming from a challenging experience at the centenary 24 Hours of Le Mans, the Italian squad will line up on home soil at the legendary Italian venue. The team will be facing its busiest weekend of the year as it will run in six different championships and three different locations for a total of 20 cars and 24 drivers competing between WEC, F1 Academy, FIA Formula 2 and Formula 3, Euro4 and FRECA.

For round 5, WEC will go from one of the world's fastest circuits, Le Mans, to another, and everyone at PREMA is hoping to finally capitalize on the their potential with high-profile results for both their LMP2-class Oreca 07 racecars.

On the #9 car, Italian Andrea Caldarelli will return to the driver seat to replace Silverstone-bound Juan Manuel Correa. The 33-year-old racer came close to a podium finish at Spa and has good expectations at his own country. Sharing the car with him, Romanian Filip Ugran and Dutchman Bent Viscaal are in for a rebound after a troubled LM24 run.

The #63 car will welcome a fresh face. With Mirko Bortolotti having to miss the event due to a clashing commitment, PREMA Racing drafted 37-year-old Swiss veteran Mathias Beche. An European Le Mans Series champion and FIA WEC race winner, Beche will race  alongside the pairing of Daniil Kvyat and Doriane Pin, who are looking for revenge from a DNF in the longest race of the year.

The Monza event will also be the final European outing of  2023 as the championship will then move to Japan for the following event in September and to Bahrain for the season finale.

Rene Rosin - Team Principal
"We are lining up at our home racetrack with a fresh mindset and eager to be back competing at the highest level. Le Mans was a tricky one, and we are looking forward to a smoother ride to put everything we are capable of together. We feel prepared and ready to go."
