PREMA Racing faces contact, safety-car issues in Silverstone

R08 Silverstone - FIA Formula 2 Race 2 Report

It was a difficult day for PREMA Racing at Silverstone, as the FIA Formula 2 Championship Feature Race at the British venue featured incidents and safety-car situations. Starting from P10, Sprint Race winner Frederik Vesti quickly started to make gains and dived for the pits after starting on option tyres for an undercut. A successive safety car meant that the strategy wasn't going to pay off. While he was determined to make the most out of the situation, his race didn't last much longer as he was rear-ended under safety car and punted into another car. He was forced to retire with front suspension damage.

Ollie Bearman had a clean start and moved up to P3 with a promising pace to fight for for a podium. The British racer's strategy was also on impacted by the safety car situations. Bearman was still able to finish sixth although contact with another driver led him to a 5-second penalty that pushed him down to P8.

#7 - Frederik Vesti
"P1 in the sprint race of Silverstone, it has been a really really strong race and we have been leading with a huge margin. The car was really good since the beginning, and I felt really comfortable in the wet. As a team, we really got on top of the wet driving, which is really nice as you never know when it can start raining. We continue to score points even after a disappointing day on Friday, and recovering like this on Saturday is a great result. We can look forward to hopefully have another strong race tomorrow."

#8 - Ollie Bearman
"A bit of a difficult race, I had a good first couple of laps and I got up to P2, but unfortunately I lost a couple of positions again with a spin. After that, I was struggling a bit with the pace, and it was a tough second half of the race. I'm still happy with P6 considering everything that happened, but we could have taken more today. Let's look to tomorrow where it will hopefully be dry and see what we can do."
