R03 Melbourne - FIA Formula 2 Race Preview
PREMA Racing will be back in Australia again this weekend as the FIA Formula 2 Championship lands in Melbourne to support the Australian Formula 1 Grand Prix at Albert Park. The 5.3 km temporary course is used only once a year, and as teams and drivers approach the event, being efficient is what can make a difference, especially with a different car compared to the one used in the series’ first outing last year. The circuit itself is also different from regular street courses, featuring mid to high-speed corners that are both highly technical and challenging in terms of passing and racecraft.
Coming back from his Formula 1 debut, filling in at Scuderia Ferrari in the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, Ollie Bearman will return to his #3 car after capturing a scintillating pole in Jeddah. The British racer is eager to prove his potential again in Australia and get into motion. On the other hand, Kimi Antonelli is hoping to continue his points-finishing streak and even make his breakthrough to the podium positions.
For the race at the Melbourne street race, tyre supplier Pirelli nominated the P Zero Yellow medium tyre as the Prime choice and the P Zero Purple supersoft as the Option.
RENÉ ROSIN - Team Principal
"We are really happy to race in Melbourne. The track is challenging from many different points of view but it’s always a great experience all around. We are delighted to welcome Ollie back after his amazing Formula 1 debut, and we want to continue the job where we had left off at the start of the weekend at Jeddah. On the other hand, Kimi is looking to make a further step after three consecutive points finishes, and racing at such particular venue will help him make even more valuable experience."
