PREMA set for closest round to home in Barcelona
The 2024 F1 Academy series will be back for Round 3 this weekend, and after competing at Jeddah and Miami, PREMA Racing will race close to home this weekend at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.
The 4.66-kilometer raceway, located close to the City of Barcelona, is a traditional one for Formula 1 as well as for junior single-seaters, hosting the majority of the developmental championships throughout the year. F1 Academy also ran there in the past and visited it for preseason testing.
Standing second in points, Mercedes-AMG F1 Junior driver Doriane Pin is set to competition after recovering from a recent rib injury. Maya Weug secured two podiums so far and is third in the drivers' standings. The Scuderia Ferrari Driver Academy racer has competed in Barcelona in the past and hopes to bank on that experience. Tina Hausmann also raced at the venue in Formula 4 with positive results. For her, it will be the ideal chance to fight back after being put out of contention twice in the USA and facing bad luck in general so far.
The goal for the team is to maximize the European stint between Barcelona and Zandvoort, before heading East again for the final part of the year.
RENÉ ROSIN - Team Principal
"It has been an interesting season so far. In Miami, we didn't show the same winning potential as Jeddah, but we still collected valuable points, and we are looking forward to battling on top as we line up for the event closest to home. We hope to see Doriane back in the hunt in full shape, and to make progress with Maya and Tina. We must be ready to capitalize on our potential and execute the weekend in a key moment for the series."
