PREMA claims Team Championship as Weug captures maiden win

R07 Abu Dhabi - F1 Academy Race Report

Maya Weug posted her first F1 Academy win at Yas Marina Circuit, while PREMA Racing secured the Team Championship in the 2024 season finale.

Starting from row 3 in the final race of the Abu Dhabi tripleheader, the Scuderia Ferrari Driver Academy junior made a blistering recovery, delivering several clean overtakes and sailing away in the distance. A late safety car didn't hurt her form as she took the chequered flag in P1. The result, paired by two points finishes in the first two races, was pivotal in the outcome of the Team Championship fight.

Doriane Pin also visited the podium in Race 1. After finishing third in the opening race, she got a P4 in the second before being punted out at the start of Race 3. Having to recover from the back of the pack, she bounced back to an amazing sixth place.

Tina Hausmann also had a starring performance in Race 3. The Swiss racer, coming from a points finish in Race 2, wrapped up the season with her best career result in the championship with P4.

Competing as a wild card, Logan Hannah had a competitive weekend run and achieved a points finish in Race 2.

#19 TINA HAUSMANN

"The last race of the season has been quite emotional. It has been a good weekend with two points finishes and my best result of the season in P4, but we are all a bit sad because it's the last one and we really enjoyed this season. We had a lot of ups and downs but it all paid off in the end. We always kept our head high and we will continue to work really hard."

#28 DORIANE PIN

"The weekend has been challenging. I think we could have done better, especially in qualifying, but we missed something there which we recovered for the races. We had a really good pace in the races, securing P3 in the first one. Race 2 was okay but then we got a contact in turn 1 of Race 3. It's a bit of a shame as I was aiming for victory and we had the pace to achieve it. Still, we had a nice comeback to finish P5. Not the easiest season, but a positive first year in single-seaters for me. We are vice champions and we won the teams' title, so can be pretty happy with how it went."

#64 MAYA WEUG

"It's nice to round out the season with a win. It was a tough weekend for the whole team and we really needed to secure the Team Championship. To do that in the last race was quite nice. The pace was good when I was in free air, and it was a bit of a crazy race with overtakes and trying to pass Hamda and Abbi. I'm really happy that the team got the title in the end. Starting from P6 I didn't expect to win but it feels great to do it and it has been a good way to cap off the season."

#54 LOGAN HANNAH

"I'm really really happy with the final result of the weekend. I came in on the back foot having only done one day of testing ahead of it competing against the girls that have been doing it all year. To finish 14th, 10th, and 12th in the three races and have no penalties, no accidents, no spins or other mistakes is a very good result. To walk away as the fourth wild car driver to score points is also pretty cool considering that there were seven. I'm happy with the way the weekend ended up going, I just wish we could have done a bit more testing. I'm really thankful for being here. Huge thank you to F1 Academy, PREMA, and Away for making this happen. Hopefully, you will see me again in the future!"
