PREMA has challenging qualifying in the UK

R07 Silverstone - FIA Formula 2 Qualifying Report

PREMA Racing experienced a challenging qualifying session today at Silverstone as round 7 of the FIA Formula 2 Championship went underway today at the British venue.

The team went for a single push lap strategy with both sets of tyres with Jehan Daruvala but the expected high tyre degradation didn't eventually materialise, and with many contenders improving in the final stages, the Indian dropped back to P10. He will start tomorrow's Sprint Race from P1 on the reverse grid.

Coming from a difficult practice session which featured a high-speed spin, the Norwegian rookie improved his chemistry with the track using his first set of new tyres. However, he couldn't quite put the lap together with the second set, which relegated him to P13 for both races.

#1 - Dennis Hauger
"The first set was not too bad. The first push was just to get a feel for it as it wasn't easy after FP. The second push was quite good. I felt pretty comfortable and identified a few things to change for the second set. Other than that it was quite alright. I just had to make the step with the second one but didn't manage to put everything together. It could have gone better on several things. We have a race tomorrow so we have to try and stay positive, but it was not what I wanted in the end."

#2 - Jehan Daruvala
"It wasn't the best qualifying. We thought that doing one lap on both sets would be optimal because we saw in F3 there was degradation on the second lap. It didn't really work out. I didn't have the same amount of laps as the guys in front. I tried my best to make a step but it was just too much. The only good thing is that I'm on pole for the Sprint Race tomorrow. I need to win tomorrow and then try to finish on the podium from where we will start. It's a long weekend and we can try our best."
