PREMA has bittersweet Sprint Race in Saudi Arabia

R02 Jeddah - FIA Formula 2 Race 1 Report

PREMA Racing ended up an extremely promising day with a sixth-place finish in the Sprint Race of the FIA Formula 2 Championship at Jeddah Corniche Circuit.

Starting from eighth place on the reverse grid after cruising to a brilliant second place in qualifying. The British rookie made a great start and immediately started chasing the leading pack, quickly fighting back to fifth place. While he was already planning a podium attack, Bearman was wiped out by another driver's mistake under braking and had to retire.

Frederik Vesti who was taking-off from ninth place due to a grid penalty, navigated the pack at the challenging Saudi street circuit and fought within the top-8. In the final stages, the Dane delivered two outstanding overtakes to get up to P6 and even became a threat for the top-5 before running out of laps.

#7 - Frederik Vesti
"We finished in P6 from P9 on the grid, and it was a pretty good race. We were struggling a bit in the beginning, but then the race came to me, and I made two good overtakes towards the end. I would have wished the race was longer because the pace was great at the end. We will take the positives from today and go for it tomorrow."

#8 - Ollie Bearman
"It was difficult to end up with nothing, but overall I was quite happy with the part of the race I could complete. I had a good first lap and I was slowly coming up the field. It's been unfortunate to have been taken out like that, but there was nothing I could have done differently. I'm looking forward to tomorrow starting from the front row, let's go for it!"
