PREMA Racing will make its Australian debut this weekend as the FIA Formula 2 and Formula 3 championships are set for their first foray at the Albert Park Circuit in Melbourne. The 5.3-kilometre temporary venue has been a Formula 1 feature since 1996, delivering many spectacular races, and more action is expected with the full feeder series package for 2023.
With so many new things on the plate, PREMA will line up with high spirits at the stunning location, rejuvenated by the Feature Race win achieved in Jeddah. On the other hand, as there are no new guarantees and many aspects to learn, starting from how the tyres will perform on an unforeseen surface, the team won't rely on previous success. In addition, threats of rain for qualifying will make it even harder to get the job done.
Frederik Vesti, who took the Race 2 win in Saudi Arabia, intends to establish himself among the favourites and frontrunners for the rest of the season. Ollie Bearman, who showed a head-turning pace but struggled to put it together on race day, will try to use the new track's tendency to level the playing field.
With its fast, sweeping corners, the circuit awaits teams and drivers who already had the chance to enjoy the country, having anticipated their arrival to absorb the jet lag and be in tip-top shape for the event.
Rene Rosin - Team Principal
"We are incredibly excited to race in Melbourne. It's a new experience in a new location for us, and everyone in the team relishes this opportunity. We line up aware of the work we have to do, which will be considered. and that our previous success will not matter here. However, we have the instruments to build positive results here as well, and both Frederik and Ollie showed that they have the potential to deliver."
