PREMA Racing locks out front row for legendary Spa event

R10 Spa-Francorchamps - FIA Formula 2 Qualifying Report

PREMA Racing posted a sensational result today as the team locked out the front row for the FIA Formula 2 Championship Feature Race in qualifying at Spa-Francorchamps. Ollie Bearman captured his third pole of the season by setting a quick early lap time right before the rain soaked the famous Belgian venue, making the most of the early pit out to lead the pack with a comfortable margin.

The Ferrari Driver Academy member will lead the pack on Sunday, while he will start from P10 in the reverse-grid Sprint Race.

Frederik Vesti also maximized the chance to set an early lap by cruising to P2 and making a positive step in terms of his championship chase. The Dane, a Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Team Junior Driver, will take off from the front row of the main race of the weekend scheduled hours before the Belgian Grand Prix.

“P2 in the Spa qualifying and I think we can thank the weather gods for that. We were the first team to exit, and it was starting to rain already in the first push lap, but we got the job done for the team with P1 and P2. I’m just extremely happy because there is a lot of pressure in moments like that and doing the job and being in P2 is very important to me. I’m already excited about the races. There might be some changing conditions so let’s see what we can do, but nevertheless this was a very strong day. Congrats to the team and to Ollie for pole.”

#8 Ollie Bearman

“We pretty much knew it was going to rain at some point. We were a bit lucky to be at the front of the grid exiting, but I just managed to do a clean lap, make no mistakes and put everything together. Really happy to take pole and it’s really nice to bounce back after a tough couple of weekends. Let’s go for the races to score some good points.”
