R12 Monza - FIA Formula 2 Race Preview

The FIA Formula 2 Championship will line up on PREMA's home track at Monza for the penultimate round of the 2023 series.

Coming from an eventful round at Zandvoort, where race 1 was called off, and race 2 featured more challenges than expected, the team hopes for a consistent run this weekend.

Danish racer Frederik Vesti is sitting second in the driver standings, well within striking distance. The 21-year-old driver has a positive personal history at the Italian speed temple, with wins in Formula Regional and Formula 3 and two podium finishes last year in Formula 2.

Ollie Bearman also experienced remarkable success at Monza, with multiple Formula 4 wins and a double podium in the title-deciding 2022 Formula 3 event. The 18-year-old British driver is sitting seventh in points with three wins this year.

A long, extremely high-speed raceway, Monza will provide its unique challenges. Long straights and heavy braking provide room for overtaking, and the slipstream game is often vital.

For the event, tyre supplier Pirelli nominated the P Zero Yellow medium and P Zero Purple supersoft as the rubber of choice.

René Rosin - Team Principal

"We are coming from two eventful weekends, to say the least, and we need to have a smooth one at Monza. On the other hand, we know it is a track where everything can happen, including intense fighting and comebacks. We are in contention with both titles, but we know no more hiccups will be allowed. Any mistake at this point can have decisive consequences on the final results, so we look forward to executing well."
